2017 Edition: "Graduate, and then what?"

This summer, the Double Diploma Association conducted a survey of the graduating class (2013-2017) on their post-double diploma path. Whether for inspiration or simply out of curiosity, discover, in this article, the results of our survey as well as the portraits of the outgoing promotion.

Graduate, and then what?

This is the question that all double-degree students ask themselves. Whether in the first, second, third or final year, the post-graduation question can sometimes be dreamlike, sometimes nightmarish.

Some students already have a clear idea of their post-double degree orientation from the start of their university career. Some are open to different routes. Some are undecided. Some want to continue their studies in France, while some want to go to the other side of the world. Some turn to research, while others prepare for professional competitions. In short, one thing is certain:  the question of post-double degree orientation is very revealing of the diversity within our program.

The Double-degree Association therefore wished to create a “portfolio” of post-double-degree opportunities through a questionnaire circulated to the outgoing promotion (2013-2017). Thanks to the latter, we wish to demonstrate the diversity of the double-degree opportunities in order, among other things, to promote training among high school students and employers, as well as to be able to help double-degree students in their academic choices and professionals. Discover, below, some key results of our survey.

  • 93.3% of the students questioned felt that the double degree was useful for them in obtaining their choice.

Among those who answered positively, the reputation of the double degree, the ability to adapt, the in-depth study of two legal systems, as well as the mastery of English were particularly valued. The nature of the double degree attests to the rigor of the students, both in their methodology and their pace of work. Among the students who answered the questionnaire, only 6.7% found the double degree unnecessary to obtain their post-Master 1 choice. In Toulouse, the lack of in-depth study of criminal law and criminal procedure under license, as well as of the theory of law, in particular was deplored.

  • The LL.M. and Master 2 are the two preferred options.

Among the students who answered the questionnaire, the continuation of studies is considered by all -  either by opting for an LL.M. or by opting for a Master 2. Some have even expressed their interest in both courses. Although the United Kingdom and France remain the preferred destinations, Canada, Spain, the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland are also among the destinations of our students. This trend reflects the international nature of our training, as well as its openness to the world.

  • There is no such thing as a "typical profile".

This survey reveals not only the diversity of our students' destinations (see above), but also the diversity of opportunities! A large majority of our students have chosen to continue their studies in various areas of law. The courses chosen include, among others, studies in international humanitarian law, intellectual property law, business law and taxation, European economic law, international business law, or film, audiovisual and multimedia law. However, there are also many students who choose to continue their studies in fields other than law. We have, for example, a student who opted for the  intensive course at the Sorbonne in art history.

If you wish to deepen your research, the Association will post the portraits of the students who took part in the survey online shortly. The links leading to the portraits will be listed, as we go, in this article. In the meantime, some students have expressed their consent to be contacted, by email, for more information on their course. Do not hesitate to use our directory, below, to join them!
